Same with were mine live.. They actually have permanent signs up on the road with red flashing lights ( like a railroad crossing ) that gets turned on when the roads close.
I'm hoping the weather they are calling for really happens for once - we were supposed to head out of town to visit my family and stay overnight. Because of the snow mixed with freezing rain we opted to stay at home because where my parents are is famous for the roads getting shut down and we cannot afford to get stuck there more than one night. My whole family is miserably disappointed but we can't take the risk. If the weather doesn't hit I will feel even worse.

a watch is the less evil of the two.. Warnings are worse. If they actually do issue the warning, then it means the storm is imminent or already happenning, although the amounts can be off.. A watch just means, we may get it.
Warning just means it's coming, if I'm not mistaken.. doesn't mean it's more or less serious than any other.

I just meant to point out that warning does not mean that it's serious or not, just that it's going to happen in some measure.

Winter storm warning for
Windsor - Leamington - Essex County upgraded from Winter storm watch
..Snow and blowing snow beginning this evening and continuing tonight..
A Colorado low over Southwestern Iowa this afternoon is tracking towards Northern Ohio. Snow ahead of this low will move into Southwestern Ontario later this afternoon then into remaining regions this evening. Significant amounts of snow are likely with a potential for 15 cm of snow in many areas tonight. The snow may change over to ice pellets and freezing rain for a few hours tonight in locales near Western Lake Erie.
Brisk east to northeast winds are also expected to whip up the freshly fallen snow resulting in low visibilities in blowing snow in many areas. Driving conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly beginning this evening and become hazardous due to very low visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Freezing rain in the extreme southwest may make untreated surfaces become icy.
The snow and freezing precipitation will move off to the east of the district by Monday morning as the low pressure system races east over Pennsylvania to Southern New England.
Environment Canada is closely monitoring the situation. Warnings will be issued later today as required.
Refer to your local public forecast for further details.
