The Party Warehouse on Walker road is on fire. It broke out around 1 am and they are still spraying it down with water. I live a block away and you can still see thick smoke. Hope no one was hurt.

We were out of power for a few hours and my neighbour called me this am at 5 just before she went to work as the power was out and she didn't want any of us to be late for school. I went and picked up a coffee at Timmies a short while ago and Walker from Richmond to Wyandotte is blocked off.

So thats what all the commotion was - I heard the sirens. Lucky it was night and no one was hurt.

WOW!!! So sad for everyone working there. Dh worked at Champion for a short time last year. He was being called back soon for part-time work. Dh's boss(not the owner) had just gotten back from India because his dad passed away.
Prayers for everyone :pray

Break-in tools, accelerant smell found today at site of Walker Road fire.

By Star Staff, The Windsor Star February 15, 2011 1:02 PM

The Star has learned that a backpack was discovered on Walker Road near today's fire scene. It contained break-in tools and it also smelled like some kind of an accelerant. Police wouldn't comment on the report.

I can't say I am either just because there have been several big fires since Jan-- I think there is an arsonist wreaking havoc

I personally wouldn’t be surprised if the businesses or business owners involved are in some sort of financial trouble and think arson is a way to receive an insurance money windfall. But then I am jaded. =)

All THREE businesses are owned by the same owner.

I don't think that is the case with this. I know these owners & do not think they would do this.

Not to mention they just got a chunk of money for redoing their lighting to eco-friendly. Why do that and then set the place ablaze?

I don't know that it's the owners, but just the way things have been going. I remember the flag place too.. It just stinks of arson to me. No real reason other than intuition. Plus the news isn't helping matters.

That Walker road area has been bad luck for fires, isn't that the 3rd one in that stretch?

Is that a fact that they are all owned by the same owner as the one on Ouelette?

How awful, I know they were fighting the fire at 7:30ish on my way to school and that part of the road was still closed with emergency vehicles flashing at 7pm at night.

At least no one was hurt.

No I was saying clean depot, champion, & party warehouse were all owned by the same owner. All the ones that burned yesterday. They are understandably devistated. They put a lot of work into that building & as KAthy said just did a go green retrofit that cost them a huge amount of $$

I'm sure there's a possibility that there's a serial arsonist out there, but really everything is just speculation. I've probably watched a few too many crime shows because when things like this happen I immediately think that the owners or tenants are somehow involved. Certainly, if businesses keep burning down and the arsonists are never caught, and someone is desperate in this down economy, I don't think it's far of a stretch to think that way.

There seem to be a lot of fires on that stretch, but the Flag Shop place was def. arson.

Flag place was like 2 years ago...and it was deemed arson.

I still smell smoke around here and I'm just glad no one was hurt. It was arson...there was a backpack found of break in tools and it reeked of accelerant.

I don't think they've made any actually announcements about it though, right?
