Its not officially posted on Environment Canadas website yet.. but DH heard on the radio that we will be under a winter storm warning starting tomorrow.

The Weather Network has us pegged for 10-20cm of snow..

Environment Canada has us pegged for 2-4cm cm of snow and freezing rain...

I looked this up last night. Just going to be a big mess with the rain then snow and the colder temps.

That will just be perfect to give birth in!! My mom got pounded last night with a blizzard, it's a good thing I didn't go into labour then.

Good thing there's no school for Monday. Since its family day, might as well stay in, stay warm and bake cookies & brownies.

I'm hoping the weather they are calling for really happens for once - we were supposed to head out of town to visit my family and stay overnight. Because of the snow mixed with freezing rain we opted to stay at home because where my parents are is famous for the roads getting shut down and we cannot afford to get stuck there more than one night. My whole family is miserably disappointed but we can't take the risk. If the weather doesn't hit I will feel even worse.

Hardly a need for a warning if we get that much. I'm with Jen-- the freezing rain is what I hate

Same with were mine live.. They actually have permanent signs up on the road with red flashing lights ( like a railroad crossing ) that gets turned on when the roads close.

Warning just means it's coming, if I'm not mistaken.. doesn't mean it's more or less serious than any other.

That was creepy. As soon as I opened this post my weather bug icon started chirping and up popped the warning. I was actually getting excited because all the snow was gone and my garden almost dried out :(

a watch is the less evil of the two.. Warnings are worse. If they actually do issue the warning, then it means the storm is imminent or already happenning, although the amounts can be off.. A watch just means, we may get it.

That's what I said. lol

I just meant to point out that warning does not mean that it's serious or not, just that it's going to happen in some measure.

no thats right, but they dont issue winter storm warnings unless a certain amount of precipitation is expected or mixed with other issues like high winds, or colder temps etc.

It'll all be rain, the sun is bumping the temp a few degrees above what the highs supposed to be :) maybe that's wishful thinking but I'm going with it!

I hope it's wrong or at least a mild snow/rain fall... Tomorrow's my son's b-day party and I'd hate for it to be freezing and snowing/raining all day especially after the beautiful weather we've had!!

Its official now!
We were under a watch which has now been upgraded to a warning.

Windsor - Leamington - Essex County
1:18 PM EST Sunday 20 February 2011
Winter storm warning for
Windsor - Leamington - Essex County upgraded from Winter storm watch

..Snow and blowing snow beginning this evening and continuing tonight..

A Colorado low over Southwestern Iowa this afternoon is tracking towards Northern Ohio. Snow ahead of this low will move into Southwestern Ontario later this afternoon then into remaining regions this evening. Significant amounts of snow are likely with a potential for 15 cm of snow in many areas tonight. The snow may change over to ice pellets and freezing rain for a few hours tonight in locales near Western Lake Erie.

Brisk east to northeast winds are also expected to whip up the freshly fallen snow resulting in low visibilities in blowing snow in many areas. Driving conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly beginning this evening and become hazardous due to very low visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Freezing rain in the extreme southwest may make untreated surfaces become icy.

The snow and freezing precipitation will move off to the east of the district by Monday morning as the low pressure system races east over Pennsylvania to Southern New England.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring the situation. Warnings will be issued later today as required.

Refer to your local public forecast for further details.
