mom's purse-power : conscious
consumerism |
|
|
August 2007
Newsletter
Every time we go shopping, we hold in our hands not just
a dollar (actually, more than a few dollars) but the
tangible opportunity to make a difference in our family, our
health, our city, our world. Might sound corny and
far-fetched, but we can really make every
little cent count by being conscious of where those
dollars and cents go. We can start by buying locally whenever
possible, choosing eco-friendly products and services that are
kinder to the planet, and supporting fair trade enterprises.
As
ever-busy and ever-multi-tasking moms, our access to ethical
and green choices might sometimes be limited by time and
convenience. We aim to make it easier for us moms by
bringing forward the products and services that inspire
informed, ethical and more meaningful
consumer choices. Best of all, we're making a big
difference as we teach our little ones to be kinder to one
another and to our
planet.
"Every action in our lives touches on some chord
that will vibrate in eternity." (Edwin Hubbel Chapin).

buying time
through eco-logical household
management
Trailblazer, entrepreneur, mom and
wife Lorene's life is full of joy, laughter, romance, madness,
and occasional bouts of apprehension and discontent and she
wouldn't have it any other way. Lorene's daughter was born in
September 2003 in Hunan, China. She and her husband
arrived in Hunan in Sept 2004 to meet her and bring her
home. This was the most incredible day of her life so far
as she realized one of her dreams materialize before her. Life
as she knew it changed forever that day. Priorities,
finances, a whole new set of truths.

Today, Lorene runs her own business
which she started from the ground up from home: keepingHOUSE. keepingHOUSE is an
environmentally-conscious residential cleaning company based
in Toronto, Canada. For busy households, keepingHOUSE offers an
all-encompassing and holistic approach to housekeeping,
providing a quality, detailed and environmentally responsible
range of housekeeping services.
Read more about Lorene
and keepingHOUSE on our website. Meet Lorene in person - be
inspired and learn more at our Holiday
Show this November 3rd at the CNIB
Centre!

shopping for a home with an ethical
realtor
Buying a home is no small task; neither is finding a
realtor who understands our needs as parents of young
children. Former Business Analyst and
mom to two beautiful daughters (aged 4 and
16 months), Paula understands the unique
needs of families when searching for the right home. She
appreciates that it takes a little more time to view
houses with tots in tow and that sometimes we have to
stop for a nap.
Sensitive to the needs of
young families, first-time buyers and "mover-uppers," Paula
makes it a point to bring forward all the information that
will help her clients decide on their home, and that means
going beyond the numbers and cents:
"Families don't just buy
a home, they buy into a community.
I go that little bit further and help families
find out about the local schools, community facilities and if
need be, I will knock on doors to find out how many of your
future neighbours also have children."
Read more about Paula on
our website and meet a realtor with a mission and a
vision.
