bunny ears TV...from long ago and far away!
judy blumstock [founder, owner, mom]
what is BUNNY EARS TV?
Bunny Ears TV is a website for young children, 3-7 years old, that web-casts great short children’s programs from all around the world. You and your children can watch it free of charge at www.bunnyears.tv
what is the story behind your business name?
Many of the programs are from “long ago and far away”, and the Bunny Ears name was meant to evoke the era when televisions actually had “bunny ear” antennae on top to improve reception. Plus, most young children like bunnies!
how, when, and where did BUNNY EARS TV come to life?
We’ve been cooking this up for a couple of years and finally started webcasting on March 1, 2007! Why Bunny Ears TV? It is a very long story having to do with my little girl who did not sleep through the night until she was 4…..a really long story!
I am located in Toronto and so are the web-designer and programmers who helped bring the site to life, but the actual programs are places as far away as Latvia, France andHungary, with more to come from even farther away!
what inspires you to do what you do?
My own childhood, and my child! I was lucky enough to spend some time in Hungary as a child, and the programs I watched there were so good that I wanted my own family to see them too!
what did you do before BUNNY EARS TV?
I worked in venture capital, investing in young biotech companies. Quite the difference!
how do you market and sell your products and/or services?
Right now, we are relying on word of mouth, and other websites like mom2mom.
what are the 3 words that you would use to describe yourself as a mompreneur?
Energetic, determined, off-the-wall!
what are the 3 (inanimate!) things that you couldn't live without as a mompreneur?
Blackberry, Blackberry, Blackberry!
what are the 3 greatest challenges that you face/d as a mompreneur?
- compartmentalizing my time
- working via email vs. face-to-face meetings
- learning a whole new industry
finally, what would you advise a mom who is thinking of starting her own business?
If your heart is really in it, then go full speed ahead. What has surprised me a little is that if you are successful, your business will turn into more than a full time job! So before you start, think about how you will manage that. You may need more employees than you originally realized if you want to keep yourself on a part-time schedule!
