what is ART2ZED?
art2zed is original, personal and affordable art for children. Every piece is handpainted using acrylic paints directly on mounted canvases. They also come ready to hang.
what is the story behind your business name?
it's a fun play on words as I've done many paintings of the alphabet, hence a to z!
how, when, and where did artzed come to life?
how: I was going to be a godmother and wanted something special,original and personal. I had seen some children's art that was just too expensive so decided to do my own. They loved it! I then bought 12 more canvases and art2zed began.
when and where: started Oct 2004 in Sydney Australia, selling at art and craft markets. art2zed goes global and my family move to Toronto, Canada July 2006
what inspires you to do what you do?
I have always been creative and find painting so relaxing. I enjoy having something for myself that I can also earn some money from but doesn't take me away from my kids too long. I am very inspired by my five year olds passion for animals and my three year old who is my very own little princess.
what did you do before art2zed?
I was a Lifestyle Manager for busy professionals in London and previously worked as a Concierge.
how do you market and sell your products and/or services?
My launch in Toronto was at The Children's Trunk Show last weekend. I hope to do more art and craft shows and fundraisers, put flyers around town and through word of mouth.
what are the 3 words that you would use to describe yourself as a mompreneur?
creative, outgoing, passionate
what are the 3 (inanimate!) things that you couldn't live without as a mompreneur?
my laptop, Loomis art store, M&M's!
what are the 3 greatest challenges that you face/d as a mompreneur?
- not enough hours in the day
- finding good suppliers
- keeping ideas current and fresh.
finally, what would you advise a mom who is thinking of starting her own business?
go for it, it's challenging, fun, you meet great people, it's gratifying when someone loves what you do and it's great when you can incorporate something you love and earn some money!
